Parking Options

Construction of Central Corridor Light Rail is currently impacting many streets adjacents to History Theatre. Please see the bottom of this page for tips to minimize your inconvenience arriving at Sample Night Live.

From the North:

If west of St. Paul, take the north-south highway of your choice (Hwy. 169, Hwy 100, I-35W, etc.) to I-94 east (if you're really west, go to I-694 east first, then follow I-94 when it splits off in Brooklyn Center). Continue through Downtown Minneapolis - don't stop - and get ready to hit St. Paul. Take the 10th Street exit and swing around into Downtown St. Paul. Before you're ready for it, the History Theatre will be on your right. Grab a spot on the street (meter parking is free after 4:30 p.m.) or hang a right onto Cedar Street. You can take the first right onto Exchange Street, go two blocks and pull into the 7A Municpal Ramp on your right, or you can continue down Cedar Street two blocks and turn right into the World Trade Center parking ramp. Tip: the 7A Municpal Ramp is connected to History Theatre via Skyway.

If east of St. Paul, get yourself to I-35E and take that south, exiting at Wacouta Street/10th Street. Head to your right (Google Maps calls it a "slight right") so you're on 10th Street, and follow that until you drive right into the side of History Theatre. Seriously, it'll be right in front of you, at the intersection of 10th and Cedar streets. Grab a spot on the street (meter parking is free after 4:30 p.m.), or hang a left onto Cedar Street. You can go two blocks and turn right into the World Trade Center parking ramp, or take your first right onto Exchange Street, go two blocks and pull into the 7A Municipal Ramp on your right. Tip: the 7A Municpal Ramp is connected to History Theatre via Skyway.

From the South:

If west of St. Paul, take the north-south highway of your choice (Hwy. 169, Hwy 100, I-35W, etc.) to I-94 east (if you're really west, go to I-694 east first, then follow I-94 when it splits off in Brooklyn Center). If east of St. Paul, get yourself to I-35E and take that north, exiting at 11th Street. Swing around into Downtown St. Paul. Stay in the right lane and get your blinker ready, then turn right onto Cedar Street, right at the Elmer Anderson Human Services Building (very nice, by the way). In one block, History Theatre will be on your right at the intersection of Cedar and 10th Streets. Grab a spot on the street (meter parking is free after 4:30 p.m.), go two more blocks and turn right into the World Trade Center parking ramp, or go one more block, turn right onto Exchange Street, then go two blocks and turn right into the 7A Municipal Ramp. Tip: the 7A Municpal Ramp is connected to History Theatre via Skyway.

From the East:

Drive all crazy-like down I-94 west, then exit without warning at 12th Street. Go about three blocks, staying in the left lane, and turn left onto Cedar Street. After the bridge, go one block and History Theatre will be on your right at the intersection of Cedar and 10th Streets.

From the West:

Take I-94 east. That's right: east. You'll survive. Parking Options

On-street: meter parking in Downtown St. Paul is free after 4:30 p.m. (nice of them, wasn't it?). If you're looking for your cheapest option with potentially the most amount of walking, this is a good bet.

7A Municipal Ramp: the 7A Municipal Ramp is located on Exchange Street between Wabasha and St. Peter streets (see the little P in a circle on the map). Parking charges range $3-$11; both cash and credit cards are accepted. The ramp is open to 11 p.m. and is connected to the History Theatre via SkyWay. Clearance is 7'-0".

World Trade Center Ramp: the World Trade Center Ramp is located on West 7th Street between Cedar and Wabasha Streets (see the little Ps in circles on the map - there are two because you can enter from either Cedar or Wabasha). Parking charges range $5-$14; cash or check only. They say it's open 24 hours, but our personal experience is staff are hard to see after 10 p.m. Clearance is 7'-0".

Other options: These are the parking options we've tested personally, but there are many more options available in close proximity to History Theatre (close being a somewhat subjective term, natch). Download the Downtown St. Paul Parking Guide for much more parking information that you'll ever need.

For now ...

Construction of Central Corridor Light Rail Transit is currently affecting many streets and intersections adjacent to History Theatre. In particular, Cedar Street is closed completely between 12th and 10th streets (more information available here). Access to the 7A Municipal and World Trade Center parking ramps is not currently affected, though on-street parking may be limited given the scope of construction. Given the state of things, here's what we recommend:

From northwest of St. Paul: Follow the directions above, but turn right on St. Peter Street after W 10th Street curves around by St. Joseph's Hospital. Follow St. Peter to Exchange and turn left, then left again into the 7A Municipal Ramp. If you prefer to park in the World Trade Center Ramp, take St. Peter to 5th Street, turn left, then left again onto Wabasha in one block. Follow Wabasha approximately two blocks to the entrance into the ramp, on your right.

From northeast of St. Paul: Follow the directions above, but at the Wacouta/10th Street exit follow Wacouta instead of 10th. At the intersection of Wacouta and 7th Street E, turn right onto 7th. Follow 7th to Wabasha and turn right. The entrance to the World Trade Center Ramp will be immediately on your right. If you prefer to park in the 7A Municipal Ramp, continue on Wabasha two blocks and turn left onto W Exchange St. The 7A Ramp entrance will be on your right.

From southwest of St.

From southeast of St.

From the east: Follow the directions above, but immediately after exiting on 12th street, turn left onto Jackson Street. Follow Jackson to 7th Street E and turn right.

From the west: Follow the directions above, but turn right on St.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused, but look forward to the ease at which you'll be able to take a train to Sample Night Live in our 7th season! :-)
